Chichester Triathlon 2013 now live

The Natures Way Chichester Tri 2013
On a hot sunny day, with a bit of a nice breeze on the bikes to keep people cool and a run along the old train line in the shade the Chichester Triathlon and try-a-try took place.

Organised by Chichester Council, it's a pool based swim with a ride out on the south downs (with at least one long climb and a big drop-off the other side) http://goo.gl/maps/tyjSb  and a run along the old railway line. It starts off in waves at 7am and this year over the two race distances had over 340 competitors on the day.

At least it was a bit windy out on the bike course with a cooling effect, so being out in the sun in 30degree heat, or even hotter near the tarmac wasn't as bad as it could be before the gentle 10k run under the tree shaded run route...

Overall winners of the full standard triathlon were Chris Birch #282 in 1:57:31, Mary Campbell #116 in 2:11:19 and of the Sprint Try a Tri distance, Harry Leleu #402 in 1:27:59 and Annabel Parker #469 in 1:43:44. Given the temperatures all very strong times for their distances.

Charlotte Eastley #137 in the standard tri overall had a good race, leaving the swim in 33rd place, picking up a few minutes in transition and holding 23rd after the cycling, only to leave a few places behind on the run and finish in 25th place in the female race in a time of 3:01:35. However that wasn't quite the end of things for her...
All smiles to the supporters out of T1

All smiles on the bike

All smiles at the finish

What more could you want, a cool drink, a medal and a finish ? still all smiles.

you want to what ???!!!  MARRY ME ?

yes ok, you crazy man

A relieved thumbs up from her new Fiancée
So congratulations to Charlotte and her new future husband, if you get in touch we'll sort you out with free photos from the race as a memento. I'll add - we don't do weddings ;-) (we can and have, but don't any more - too busy).

Meanwhile everyone else had a normal race !
Emergency ice cream vehicle en route

2 ice creams please, I'm parched

praying to the god of ice creams

I'll have an ice cream too please

hang on, I can't smell the ice cream

Yes, ice cream for me too please

Top tip - if you must have a Tattoo, leave a space for your race number (and an ice cream - obviously)

If you're looking at your watch, you will always be late for your ice cream

Double vision ? no just hallucinating for an ice cream

great camaraderie at the finish, but no ice cream ?! disaster !

It's a family affair

Team work at the finish is always good fun

Unfortunately you don't start the swim down the slide.
Well done to the team at Chichester, and a very big thank you for the free calf massage from the students at SPRU who were volunteering at the finish. (yes even photographers get injuries).

Next weekend is the Hurt, race #3 a 12k run (or 24 if you're bonkers) http://bit.ly/the-Hurt-2013-entry and the very picturesque DTUF (down tow up flow) half marathon from Marlow to Windsor along the river. Now that is one run I want to do one day...it is beautiful along the course - if I'm not working at it !

Then it's a weekend off for the summer holidays, our first full one all year, so enjoy the weather ! (I'm going to change our name to 24-7-363 in honour of it)

Until next time
Anthony

p.s. if you're looking for the Vachery triathlon photos and video, marathon-photos from New Zealand tried to cover it this year, so err, sorry about that, not our fault.
